After we have our HVAC system serviced by an HVAC professional at the beginning of fall, I don’t like to turn my air conditioner back on again until the spring.
I believe that once everything is examined by an HVAC professional and I know the system is in working order, it should be left untouched. I would hate to turn the air conditioner on again, only for something to malfunction. My husband has always thought that this way of thinking was unrealistic, because in his mind, an HVAC system should be able to flip between the furnace and the air conditioner with ease. I never thought that I would prove him wrong, but I actually did last week and it was great. When there was an unseasonably warm day, my husband decided to turn off our furnace and turn on our air conditioner. I tried to warn him about the stress it would cause on our entire HVAC system, but he wasn’t convinced. A few hours after running the air conditioner, he tried to turn our furnace back on but the air conditioner wouldn’t stop running. No matter what we did, the cool air continued to blast through the air vents. My husband tried to salvage the situation by fixing it himself, but nothing worked. In the end, we were forced to call the HVAC company and have them fix our broken air conditioner. I didn’t like having to pay for that HVAC professional, but I’m glad it happened. Now, my husband will never question my logic about HVAC systems and he will open the doors and windows for air after we turn off the air conditioner for the season.
