Our A/C bills were so high last year that I locked up the thermostat unit! I know that that probably sounds like I was being a little overly dramatic about the whole thing, but that wasn’t really the case at all.
- I actually think that I was being a little under dramatic about it, to tell you the truth! I am a single parent and so I don’t get any help on the bills around here at all.
I don’t mind that, but what I do mind is when I tell the kids not to mess with the air conditioning system and they continue to mess with it. For some reason, my kids seem to think that the inside of the house that we live in needs to feel like the temperature of a meat locker during the summer. I like to be cooled off just as much as the next person, but I do not like having to pay super high air conditioning bills every single month. Thus began the struggle of the thermostat settings last year. I must have told my kids 100 times not to touch the thermostat settings, but every time I would come home, I would find that the A/C settings were five or even ten degrees lower than they were when I left the house for work in the morning. After a few weeks of this and one gigantic air conditioning bill, I decided that I was done being nice about it. That’s when I got one of those old school clear lock boxes with a key on it to put on the outside of our thermostat unit.
